| Business as usual in Brisbane |
It’s business as usual in a very damp Brisbane and around Australia for REA Shelving by Elbowroom. Rotating staff to keep up with relentless demand and servicing our national customer needs whilst assisting flood victims in and around Brisbane has been the REA Shelving team’s main focus.
The damaging effects of the Queensland floods are still yet to be realised with retained water posing threats to existing food storage systems.
In environments where this level of humidity is experienced every day, Elbowroom chooses to offer REA Shelving that has for the last 45 years provided an unparalleled reliability.
Manufactured from a specialised PVC plastic that does not corrode, REA is used extensively in cool rooms and other high humidity food storage facilities. REA developed the product specifically for such environments where ease of wash down and hygienic longevity are a must.
The initial testing of REA in highly corrosive saltwater proved the product’s longevity which to this day continues to surpass other food storage systems.

| Lamb Masterpieces on show from Meat and Livestock Australia |
Following on from the very successful Beef Masterpieces program, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) is launching the next instalment in the Masterpieces program in March this year – featuring the use of less popular cuts of lamb. Masterpieces is the cornerstone of MLA’s sponsorship of the Chefs Competition at FSA2011 and provides chefs with inspiration and information around some fantastic cuts of beef and lamb that are often forgotten but when used appropriately can create masterpieces.
MLA has partnered with wholesalers around the country to roll out masterclasses for chefs to see the butchery behind the cuts, best cooking methods and inspirational recipes.
Masterpieces is supported by a brochure covering all the technical and butchery information as well as recipes from leading chefs around the country based on global cuisines that showcase these fabulous cuts. The new Lamb Masterpieces brochure will be launched in March and will be available at FSA2011 as well as at wholesaler masterclasses.

| Floods Likely to Impact Food Prices and Supply |
It is expected that the worst floods in Queensland in 50 years will push the up the price of fruit and vegetables and affect the supply of some produce. Queensland accounts for approximately 28 per cent of Australia’s fruit and vegetable production and with much of the state affected by floods it seems inevitable that not only will there will be a price hike but consumers may not have access to certain types of produce for some time.
According to Michael Hepworth, Sales Manager for Birch and Waite Foods, a boutique manufacturer of premium salad dressings and mayonnaise, the Queensland floods will potentially impact the supply of fresh ginger, chilli and lemongrass.
"Outside of impacts on freight and the highly publicised products such as sugar and tomatoes the availability and demand on garlic, chilli and lemongrass will place materials stress and pricing pressure into the food service industry. Alternative imported product will still be available but in greater demand," Michael said. |
