THE HUMBLE SANDWICH TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT FSA2011

sandwichship_logo

Sandwich creators and connoisseurs alike are set to gather at FSA2011, for the National Southern Final of the Great Australian Sandwichship.

Celebrating the heroes of our lunch-hour, the Great Australian Sandwichship is about recognising the professionals who strive day-after-day to create sandwiches that range from quick, easy and nutritious to gourmet experiences that delight the taste-buds.

The Great Australian Sandwichship is Australia’s only foodservice competition of its kind. In 2010, the inaugural Great Australian Sandwichship was won by Adam D’Sylva from Coda Restaurant in Melbourne. He was not only awarded the title of Australian Sandwich Champion but also won the honour of travelling to the UK and representing Australia against Tom Allen, the British Sandwich Designer of the Year, at Lunch!2010 in London.

‘The vision for the Great Australian Sandwichship is to showcase the heroes of our lunch-time, the tireless workers who provide us with sandwiches every day,’ said Graeme McCormak, Executive Director of the Australasian Sandwich Association. ‘Holding the Southern National Final at the Foodservice Australia Expo and giving the overall winner direct access to the World Sandwichship Final, we’re looking forward to seeing the highest highest calibre of sandwich makers.’

In 2011 the Great Australian Sandwichship National Southern Final includes additional categories and renewed entry requirements: it’s only open to non-qualified chef entrants, the true lunch-time heroes.

The Great Australian Sandwichship will be battled over four distinct categories:

– Australia’s Best Toasted Sandwich
– Australia’s Best Wrap
– Australia’s Best Roll
– Australia’s Best Creative Sandwich

To apply for a position to compete in the Great Australian Sandwichship, please go to www.sandwichship.com.au or email mel@sandwich.org.au

KRAFT AND CADBURY: TWO BIG BRANDS JOIN FORCES

kraft_logo cadbury_logo

Kraft Foods Foodservice now offers the ability to provide both of Australia’s most trusted and loved brands – Cadbury and Vegemite – from the one Foodservice team.

Consumers voted Cadbury as most loved food brand and Vegemite as most loved iconic brand in the 2010 Reader’s Digest Awards. On top of that, Cadbury was named first and Vegemite third out of the top 10 in the 2011 Millward Brown Cebra study. The Cebra study ranks brands on familiarity with the consumer, affinity with the consumer and the ‘buzz’ surrounding a brand, all of which Cadbury and Vegemite scored highly in.

Cadbury products, including Cadbury Flake garnishes, Cadbury Cooking Chocolate and Cadbury Cafe Blend Hot Chocolate have now been added to the extensive Kraft Foods Foodservice list. The addition of these great products means that Kraft Foods Foodservice can now be a one stop shop for all your professional kitchen and hospitality product needs.

NZ FISHERIES NAVIGATE SUCCESSFUL COURSE

Independent Fisheries Limited was founded in 1960 and since that time, it has grown into one of New Zealand's major privately-owned fish processing companies, with 400 staff and harvesting in 30,000+ tonnes of fish annually.

1967 saw the establishment of the present-day site on the Bamford Industrial Estate at Woolston and in 1974, the company made the decision to concentrate on the manufacture of value-added fast foods.

The company's first trawler was purchased in 1975 and a further 4 trawlers were added to the fleet until 1991. Charter operations with foreign fishing companies commenced in 1986 and these, along with the Independent 1, a state-of-the-art factory freezer trawler commissioned in 1997, added to the company's strength and success.

The Woolston site has undergone several major redevelopments since those early years to keep pace with ever-increasing demands. The company has ISO & HACCP accreditation and EU approval.

Independent Fisheries Limited has, since its early days, displayed a total commitment to quality and excellence in its products, processing facilities and customer relationships and will continue this commitment well into the new millennium.
